Obituary

Vincent Blume, 74, died peacefully on January 29, 2022 at the VA hospital in West Haven, Connecticut. Vince was born on March 23, 1947 in Joliet, Illinois to Marvin and Cordula Blume.

Vince was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He served from 1964 to 1967 and was stationed in Berlin, Germany. Being a veteran was a huge part of Vince's life. He was a true patriot!

Vince was an avid sports fan of the Chicago Cubs, Bulls and Bears. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing on the Stamford Holy Name Softball League, which he managed and led them to win the ' 2000 City Champions'. Vince was a man who loved music. He had an enormous musical collection and was well versed in all genres. His life was always filled with song. His favorite type of music was the Blues.

Being a volunteer fireman and first responder was always an important responsibility for Vince. He was a longtime member of the Pound Ridge Fire Department in New York. Until his death, he was a member of the Redding Fire Department in Connecticut.

Vince was semi-retired. For over forty years Vince was a respected dealer of collectibles. His collecting began as a childhood hobby. He always said that he was fortunate to be able to "turn his avocation into a vocation". He was a gentleman of prodigious knowledge and integrity. Over the years he enjoyed time spent mentoring many young people, as well as some older people, in the science of historical collecting. He was a member of the ANA (American Numismatic Assoc.) for many years until his passing. Vince was admired and revered by many in his trade and in his personal life.

Vince is survived by his wife Barbara, his stepson Drew and his sister Katherine Blume.

A Memorial 'Life' Celebration gathering is planned in the Spring at his home in Redding, Connecticut.
