Ruth C. Shenk, age 93 of Redding, CT passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, April 1, 2022.
Born in Medford, MA on February 13, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Leo D. and Theresa DeCourcey Clark. Faith, family, and friends defined her. She graduated first in her class from Emmanuel College and went to work as an editor at the Harvard Magazine. Ruth was passionate about many things, including grammar (which puts extraordinary pressure on her children as they pen this obituary), the New York Times crossword puzzle, bridge, where she obtained several Masterpoints, golf, theater, and Boston sports. She even bought shares of the Boston Celtics. Ruth resided in Wilton for more than 40 years with her family and among her civic roles was the President of the League of Women's Voters. She was a long-time member of Silver Spring Country Club. She was a lady in every sense of the word.
Ruth is survived by her four children: Susan Mason, Matthew Mason (Derrel), Christopher Mason (Carol), and David Mason; six grandchildren, John Mason (Annie Fuller), Ian Mason, Jenna Mason, Connor Mason, Jordan Mason, and Lindsay Guerra Wyman; one great grandchild, Kylie Bailey; five stepchildren, Catherine Albright (Steven), Laurel Burns, Barbara Keller (Spencer), Norman Shenk (Catherine), and Sean Lane; and one goddaughter, Kris Bonansinga Flemming. She was predeceased by her husbands, John F. Mason, John O. Lane, and Norman E. Shenk, and her sister, Patricia A. Clark.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Ruth on Friday, April 8, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 30 Church St., Redding. Interment will immediately follow at Hillside Cemetery, Wilton. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude's.
