Obituary

Roger Louis Verron of Wilton, CT was 81 years young when he passed away on December 13, 2025 at Norwalk Hospital. He was born on May 14, 1944 at the French Hospital in Manhattan to Jacques A. Verron, who had immigrated here from Switzerland, and Marie Myers Verron. He was married in 1973 to Kathleen McIlmail Verron and they had 52 wonderful years together. They bought their first house in Wilton in 1978. The house reminded him of Europe and he exclaimed' "This is for me!" when he first drove in the driveway, despite two critters, Snickers the chicken and Buckwheat the goat who were running freely inside the vacant house. He moved in after their humane removal and never left. He also had a residence in Bondville, VT.

Roger was raised in Briarcliff Manor, New York, attended Briarcliff schools and graduated from Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Virginia. He attended Nichols College and finished his studies at the University of Geneva. He remained in Europe for several  years in the late 1960s, became fluent in French and began to hone his career in the silk fabric industry of Paris. His grandfather, father and then Roger were silk merchants who developed and sold beautiful fabrics to the finest fashion houses in Europe and then America, under the business, Verron Soieries. In the late 1970's, as the couture industry began to decline, Roger expanded his business and partnered with an Australian company to do business in the Far East. Until the present day he worked with the Japanese trading company, Teijin Limited, as an independent contractor, developing and selling fabrics for clothing and industrial purposes. The client project that stands out in his career the most to his family was born in a mail order catalogue that came to the house and sat on the kitchen counter in the late 1980's. It was for a brand new doll company called American Girl Dolls that interested his young daughter. He realized he was uniquely placed to create fabrics for the various historical clothing collections for the dolls and so began a collaboration that had him traveling the Far East and Europe to meet their needs for a number of years. His many travels gave him years of joy and he always got excited when he began to pack for a trip and could anticipate 'the smell of jet fuel" as he put it. He loved his work and had a depth of knowledge of fabric manufacturing methods and techniques that the next generation or two might not have seen.

For much of his adult life he was a passionate sailor and learned to sail on the Lake of Geneva in his youth. He bought an Atlantic sailboat while he was still living in Manhattan and had no place to sail it. The search for a location to enjoy his boat brought him to Cedar Point Yacht Club in Westport, CT and he spent decades racing in the Atlantic Class both days of every summer weekend. In his later years he took up billiards and he competed around the area with great enthusiasm. A love of competition was what both these pastimes shared for him.

A celebration of his life will be planned for warmer weather by the water at Cedar Point Yacht Club.

Roger is survived by his wife, his son Alexander Louis Verron (Corie) of Weston CT and daughter Katrina Tsamutalis (Evangelos) of Redding, CT. He also loved his three grandchildren Edward, Lucy and Cole who always entertained him with frequent visits.

Roger died of liver cancer and he received extraordinary care at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital.

Any contributions there to honor the work  they do would be greatly appreciated.
