Richard (Dick) A. Martin, age 87 of Wilton, CT died September 27, 2021 at home after a battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Cora Pettit Martin. Born September 6, 1934 in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Helen and Willard Martin. He grew up in Laconia, NH, attended Laconia High School and graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1956 with a business B.S. degree; and as a member of the AFROTC program received a Second Lieutenant Commission in the USAF. While employed at the York Harbor ME summer resort Marshall House in 1956 prior to active duty, he met his love Cora Pettit, of Andover, MA and an art student at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts. Upon marriage in January 1957 they left for Georgia where Dick began USAF pilot training.
After six years as a USAF pilot Dick enrolled at the University of Michigan obtaining an MBA in 1963 and joined the Boston Office of Arthur Young (now Ernest & Young). As a CPA with Arthur Young, Dick was elevated to the partnership in 1976 while based in the Providence Office transferring to the New York Office in 1980. With career change in 1986 Dick became the CFO of Gateway Financial Corporation, a bank holding company located in Norwalk, CT. After Gateway was acquired by a large Boston bank Dick did financial consulting work before joining the Town of Wilton as the Tax Collector retiring in 2000 to pursue relaxing as a senior citizen and performing volunteer activities for the Wilton Historical Society as VP Finance/Treasurer and Emeritus Trustee, for Guiding Eyes for the Blind as a puppy raiser with Cora, and served eight years as Wilton's Chairmen of the Board of Assessment Appeals.
Dick was a long time member of the Silvermine Golf Club always walking the course as he enjoyed the outdoors; especially with family in New Hampshire's lake region, Cape Cod, and other water front locations.
Dick is survived by Cora, his daughter Holly of RI; son Richard and his wife Helda of FL; and son Stephen and wife Nicole Aljoe of MA; three grandchildren, Chloe Blass, Courtney Martin and Richard Martin III.
Funeral services and burial will be held privately for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dick's memory may be made to the Wilton Historical Society, 224 Danbury Rd. Wilton, CT 06897
