Richard James Wakeman "Smokey", age 79, of Georgetown / South Salem, NY passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, January 7, 2019 after an extended illness.

Born in Norwalk on October 26, 1939, he was a son of the late Lester R. and Margaret O'Connell Wakeman. He worked in maintenance for the Katonah-Lewisboro Public School District. Smokey was a familiar face around Georgetown and loved lunches at the local diner. He was also a member and former Captain of the Vista Volunteer Fire Company in New York.

Smokey is survived by his brother Donald E. Wakeman and his wife Jane of Vista, his sister Carol Cole and her husband Robert of NY and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Wakeman and sister Barbara Wakeman.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Beck's Hill Cemetery, Route 123, Vista, New York. Friends may greet his family on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church Street, Georgetown CT 06829.
