Obituary

Lover of music, church organist - Phyllis I Johnson, age 84 of Stamford passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 3rd, 2015 at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford. Born in Redding on February 2nd, 1931 she was the daughter of the late Carl and Julia (Gustafson) Johnson. She graduated from Gilbert and Barnett Grammar school in Georgetown, Staples High School in Westport and Shorts Secretarial School in Stamford where she lived the rest of her life. A faithful Church member of the Swedish Congregational Church in Georgetown and then to the newly built United Covenant Church in Wilton. Phyllis enjoyed playing piano and organ for the church since age 18 until recent years. Her favorite passion was music, attending concerts locally and in NYC. She loved her family and her close friends as well as summer ocean front vacations. Phyllis was employed as a bookkeeper at Healy Buick in Stamford and then in the accounting department of Randolph Computer in New York, Greenwich and Boston. She is survived by her sister Barbara Scott of Watertown and her nieces Julie Belval and her husband Michael of Watertown and Debra Godbey and her husband Daniel of Norwalk. Phyllis was predeceased by her brother Everett Johnson and nephew Richard Johnson. A loving Sister and Aunt, Phyllis will be missed by all who knew her. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 7th, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Bouton Funeral Home Church Street, Georgetown. Friends may call at the funeral home 1:30 PM - 2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Wilton.
