Obituary

Peter Cassidy Stant, age 78, of Redding, Conn., and Naples, Fla., passed away at his home in Redding on Thursday, June 4, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with cancer and the challenges it brought. He was the beloved husband of Judith Magee Stant.

Born in Norfolk, Va., on August 14, 1947, Peter was the son of the late Bette (née Cassidy) and Frederick T. Stant, Jr. He graduated from the James Barry Robinson School for Boys and Georgetown University.  He also attended the University of Miami for graduate study.

During his lifetime, Peter traveled the world, avidly read books on many topics -- especially interesting places, and could frequently be found poring over a topography map, studying some faraway location.
Peter was happiest, though, when he was on the water.  He was passionate about sailing, sharing his skills as a certified sailing instructor in Annapolis, Md., and as a licensed charter captain in the BVIs. He spent many seasons on the open waters aboard his beloved 59-foot sloop, "The Judith Anne," sailing throughout the Caribbean and the Bahamas. In his later years, he traveled to many remote places to experience the joy and peacefulness of fly fishing, a new passion in addition to sailing.

When home, Peter loved being outdoors and spent endless hours on his tractor tending to his gardens, shaping his trees, clipping his wisteria, rearranging shrubs and always adjusting the landscape to suit his discerning eye at both homes in Naples and Redding.

Peter is survived by his wife Judith, his sons Peter Stant, Jr., and Alexander Stant (Gina), and his three grandsons Aidan, Blake, and Grayson Stant. He leaves behind two brothers, Fred Stant III (Denise)and Gregory Stant, his sister, Jennifer Swain, and two nephews, Sebastian Stant and Tristan Swain. He was predeceased by two brothers, Tyler Stant and Charles Stant.
