Nancy (Palmer)
Fairchild
Sep 7, 1932 — Jun 30, 2025
Nancy (Palmer) Fairchild, 92, of Redding, CT, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her three daughters, on June 30, 2025, at Ridgecrest of Meadow Ridge, Redding, CT. Born in New York, New York and raised in Highland Park, N.J., Nancy was the daughter of the late John W. Palmer and Virginia Light. She attended Highland Park High School, attended Penn State, and received her B.A. in Economics from Douglas College (Rutgers) in 1955. She worked for Smith Barney in New York City and then Fidelity Trust Company in Pittsburgh, PA before leaving the work force to raise her family. She and her husband of 47 years, Charles M. Fairchild, settled in Cos Cob and Old Greenwich, CT to raise their three daughters. They retired to "their happy place", Cape Cod, MA in 1993. Nancy returned to Connecticut in 2017, moving to Meadow Ridge in Redding to be closer to family. Nancy was an avid volunteer throughout her entire life. She was a Girl Scout leader, tutored foreign students, assisted students in the high school media center, was chairman of volunteers at the Old Greenwich Elementary School, a driver for Call A Ride, a service for the elderly, delivered Meals on Wheels, housed foreign exchange students from England and Japan, and served on many committees at her churches throughout the years. She even drove a school bus for the Greenwich school system, a job that paid off in recent years when backing up her mobility scooter at Meadow Ridge. Nancy is survived by her daughters, Lisa Heist (Bill) of Trumbull, CT, Suzanne Trujillo (Curt), of Escondido, CA, and Julia Carmichael (Philip), of Bellevue, WA. Her sister Martha Palmer, Bridgewater, NJ and brother J. Robert Palmer, Holliston, MA, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles M. Fairchild. At the request of the family a private service will be held at a later date when Nancy will join her husband on Cape Cod. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lower Cape Outreach Council PO Box 665, Orleans, MA 02653, a charity close to her heart.
