Michael Patrick Dobbins, age 65, of Redding, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family at Danbury Hospital on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 after an extended illness. He was the beloved husband of Maureen (VanderWel) Dobbins. They shared a life of love together in marriage for 42 years.

Born in the Bronx, New York on December 22, 1960 he was a son of the late Albert P. Dobbins and Elizabeth (Betty) Schroeder Dobbins. He was the eldest of three brothers and took pride in being a role model for his siblings. Michael is a graduate of Brewster High School class of 1978 and went on to enjoy a 40+ year career as a member of the Sheet Metal Workers’ Local Union 38, during which time he made many friends with both colleagues and clients. An avid fisherman since childhood, what began as a pastime grew into competitive sport fishing at the regional level, where he fished challenging lakes and rivers throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

Michael was passionate in sharing his knowledge, especially with the youth in the Redding community. As the President of the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Redding/Easton, baseball coach, and baseball committee member, he demonstrated tireless dedication to the Club, players, and fellow coaches and had a lasting impact on so many. Michael inspired in his son Kyle a love of baseball and was involved in every aspect of his interests, including coaching basketball and sharing leadership of Boy Scout Troop 15 of Redding. Always the willing volunteer, he taught weekly religious education for his son’s class for several years at Saint Patrick parish.

He was a proud and devoted father and loving husband. The family has happy memories of vacations enjoyed over the years, with many of them to Disney, Bermuda, Caribbean islands, and on cruises. His generosity, humor, and passion for life touched all who knew him.

Michael is survived by his wife Maureen and son Kyle; younger brother Kevin, his wife Sue, and their sons Ryan and Cody; sister-in-law Karen; sister-in-law Eileen (VanderWel) Snivley and husband Bill, and their sons Clifford and Christopher; and many cousins and their children. He was predeceased by middle brother Timothy and his parents Albert and Betty.

A Visitation will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Bouton Funeral Home, 31 W. Church Street, Georgetown, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 169 Black Rock Turnpike, Redding, CT.
