Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, Maureen Masterson Jones, 92, on October 12, 2025 in Newtown, CT. Maureen was born on February 9,1933 the eldest of six children, in Bootle, England to Alice and Jack Masterson.

Maureen's family moved from Bootle to Aintree in 1939 where she attended St. Giles School then later graduated from Litherland Secondary School.  After graduation she worked for Cunard as a telephonist in Liverpool.

Maureen was an avid reader and a career Librarian who began her library journey at the Long Ridge Library in Danbury, CT.  After her time there, she worked at the Mark Twain Library in Redding, CT, and later at Schlumberger Doll Research Library in Ridgefield CT.  Upon her retirement from Schlumberger, Maureen returned to work at the Mark Twain Library until 2020 when she retired for good.

Maureen met her husband Norman Jones, in Liverpool, England. Upon their marriage, they immigrated to the United States where they raised their family in Danbury, later moving to Redding where they spent the next 40 years.   Maureen had a passion for creativity which showed in her gardening, baking, and in the way she and Norman lovingly restored their old house together.  Maureen always stayed quite active and fit.  She loved skiing, biking, running and was especially proud of running several marathons, including the New York City Marathon.  She also enjoyed taking her grandchildren to Cape Cod for whale watching and kayaking adventures.

Maureen is survived by her two children, Andrew Jones (Barbara), Erica Joyce (Alan), four grandchildren, Adam Jones (Nicole), Eric Jones, India Butler, Dylan Jones and three great grandchildren, Alexis, Brooklyn and Camden Jones, and her sister Moya Warren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Norman Jones,  her parents, Alice and Jack Masterson, her brothers Eric Masterson, Alan Masterson, John Masterson, her sister Madeleine Masterson and her son-in-law, Alan Joyce.

Maureen's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the kind and compassionate caregivers at Benchmark in Newtown and RVNA Hospice of Ridgefield for the care they gave to our mother throughout her time there.
