Obituary

Krauss - Marvin H. Much beloved husband, father, stepfather and grandfather passed away on December 20, 2022, age 96, at Meadow Ridge in Redding, CT, where he and his wife Annette had moved in 2015 from their longtime home on the Upper East Side. A born and bred New Yorker, Marvin left NYU to enlist in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman during WWII, graduating two years after his stateside return. He devoted his entire career to the magazine business, filling leadership roles at Esquire, New York Magazine, Vanity Fair, and Gourmet with unflappable calm (and always a well-timed joke). Marvin was a lover of the arts, avid private pilot, world traveler, wine enthusiast, crack bridge player, and steady volunteer at Reading for the Blind and Dyslexic. Along with his dear Annette, his wife of 52 years, he will be deeply missed by his son Michael, his daughter Frances Krauss, his stepdaughter Marianne Barber, and her two children, Chloe and Lucas, who adored their Grandpa. Marvin gathered many important titles in his career on Madison Avenue, Advertising and Marketing Director among them. But more important, he was unfailingly humble, generous, funny, wise, and kind: the rock of his family, and the true definition of a mensch.
