Obituary

Mark Twain Miller, age 90 of Redding Connecticut, husband of the late Theresa Groshans Miller, passed away at his daughters residence in Fairfield, Connecticut on January 10, 2016. Mr. Miller was born on May 4, 1925 in Springs, PA the son of late Ernest and Emma Lohr Miller.
Mark was born into a family of Mennonite and Amish tradition which was the foundation for his peaceful approach to life. He was deeply curious about the world, becoming a person whose expertise and knowledge spanned many different subject areas, ranging from science to music to photography, automotive design, film and paint. He was an insatiable reader.  He instilled in those he knew a new way to see, to gain a love of color, composition, texture and light. He taught his children to look up, see more, and reach for excellence. One of his favorite photographic subjects was Redding's Mark Twain Falls, a small place that changed with the seasons.
Having been educated at The Maryland Institute of Fine Arts, Baltimore, Mark was the Art Director for the following corporations and publication where he managed advertising, photography, text, and film for Union Carbide World Headquarters, Danbury CT, Branson Instruments Company, Stamford, CT, Sperry Products, Danbury CT and Ultrasonic News, independent publication of Branson Instruments.  His artwork and photographs have appeared on the covers of Steel , and Welding Design and Fabrication.
Mark was as a Conscientious Objector during the Korean War; however, he served his country during this conflict as a medic. Always loving children, he photographed hundreds of Korean children.
Surviving him are his children, daughters Christine Decker and Nellie Baker, Grandchildren Jessica Bruderman, Travis Wilson, Katherine Hermenze, Autumn Kimley, Rachel Murphy,and Bryce Klinikowski.  Also surviving are his Great Grandchildren Sam Bruderman, Tessa Bruderman, Shaughnessy Murphy and Myrie Murphy. Mark was predeceased by his sisters Shirley and Kathy.
Graveside services with Military Honors will take place on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Umpawaug Cemetery 149 Umpawaug Rd, Redding, CT 06896.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bouton Funeral Home 31 W Church Street, Georgetown CT 06829.
