Obituary

Luke Gavin Sorce, age 13, of Redding, Connecticut, passed away on January 16, 2026, leaving behind a family and community forever changed by his loss. Luke's kindness, generosity, and the love he shared left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Luke was born on September 12, 2012, at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to his devoted parents, Larisa Marie Sorce (Semeniuk) and Salvatore Vincenzo Sorce. From the very beginning, Luke showed a wisdom beyond his years, marked by a thoughtful heart, keen awareness, and deep understanding of the world around him. He had a way of noticing others, understanding what was fair and right, and caring deeply for people of all ages.

He was a larger-than-life presence whose kindness, curiosity, and spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Luke was known for his quick wit, insight, and gentle thoughtfulness. He loved meaningful conversations and especially enjoyed debating history and current events, often surprising adults with how deeply he understood the world. He had a special love for math and was fascinated by how companies and the stock market worked. Luke had a strong moral compass and a natural sense of fairness, always willing to stand up for those in need and showing empathy toward both children and adults who faced challenges.

Active and full of life, Luke embraced every opportunity to move, play, and explore. He was a proud member of Boy Scout Troop 15 and participated in many sports, including football with Redding Easton Football, where he proudly wore number 24, as well as basketball, baseball, and skiing. He loved the outdoors and found joy in fishing, camping, swimming, and snorkeling.

Luke had a passion for motorsports, BMX, ATVs, and anything with wheels, as well as a love for video games, computers, and technology. He was also a member of the Science and Debate Team, reflecting his curiosity and love of learning.

Luke found happiness in simple pleasures. He loved spicy foods and chicken wings, cared deeply for animals, and especially adored his dogs, Tulip and Azalea, who were constant companions and a source of comfort and joy.

Luke's memory will be cherished and celebrated by all who survive him: his loving parents, Larisa and Salvatore; his grandparents, Irene and Zenowij Semeniuk and Maria and Calogero Sorce; his godmother, Aunt Josephine, and Uncle Kerry Shamaly, and their children, Alexander and Elizabeth (Ellie) Shamaly; his cousins, the Carlino family; his godfather, Alex Zuluaga, and family; and many extended family members, friends, teammates, classmates, and fellow Scouts who loved him deeply.

Luke will be remembered as a sweet, loving, and sensitive soul. He was a boy with a generous heart, a thoughtful mind, and a deep sense of compassion that will live on through all who knew him.
