Obituary

John Edward Stripp, age 82 of Weston, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2020, at Norwalk Hospital.  He was born in Springfield Gardens, NY on August 10, 1938, to the late John W. and Helen Weidick Stripp.

John attended Pratt Insititute and earned a BS, in Industrial Engineering. He went on to receive his MS in Management Science and Engineering from Columbia University.

John proudly served in the Air Force during the Vietnam Era and his love for his country continued throughout his life. He began his professional career as a Manufacturing Executive for AMF and Condec Corporation. He was also a General Manager at Branson Ultrasonics. The majority of his career was spent as an executive in the banking industry at Citibank, Bank of Westport, Bank of Darien, and the Fairfield County Bank. John also served at both the local and state levels as Selectman for the town of Weston and State Representative for Connecticut's 135th District.

He served on the Weston Board of Finance for eight years (1975-1983) and nine years on the Weston Board of Selectman (1983-1992). He was the past Chairman of the Weston Republican Town Committee and the Chairman of the Weston Land Acquisition Committee. John served eighteen years as a State Representative for Connecticut's  135th District (1993-2011). During his tenure in Hartford, he served as the Assistant House Minority Leader from 2003 to 2011 and was the chairman of the Banking Committee.

He was also a Deacon and Trustee of Norfield Congregational Church, a founding member of the Weston Kiwanis Club, and a member of the Westport Kiwanis Club. John was past Treasurer and a member of the Cedar Point Yacht Club of Westport where he was an avid sailor. John also served as a Finance Committee Member on the St. Vincent's Hospital Board.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Judith Johns Stripp, his devoted children, son, Jeffrey J. Stripp and his wife Linda of Williamstown, MA, daughter, Dianne Littlefield and her husband Dave of New Milford, five loving grandchildren, Carter, Sarah, and Mason Stripp and Hannah and Marshall Littlefield.

Funeral services and burial will be held privately on Wednesday, August 12th. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date at the Norfield Congregational Church in Weston.
