Jack
Harrigan
d. Dec 2, 2025
John (Jack) Michael Harrigan passed away on December 2, 2025 in Redding, Connecticut. Born December 7, 1924 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, his parents were Cornelius Herbert Harrigan, Sr., and Bertha Lukens McCurdy Harrigan. He was predeceased by his brother, Cornelius Herbert Harrigan, Jr. and his first wife of 32 years, Eleanor Doris Meinhardt Harrigan. Jack is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nancy McCutcheon Harrigan, his daughters Patricia (Eric) Arnio, Nancy Harrigan and Christine (Donald) Tuxill, and step-children Lars Skilbred, Amy Skilbred (Eric Jorgensen), Kari (Timothy) Roberts and Anders Skilbred (Laura Anglin), 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren
Jack had a strong sense of civic duty, serving as a volunteer fire fighter in Moosup, Connecticut, in the Lion's Club, the Rotary Club, the Plainfield, Connecticut School Board of Education, a Little League umpire and a Deacon, Trustee, choir member and Sunday School teacher in the Moosup Baptist Church.
Jack graduated from Ridgewood High School in New Jersey, and as Jack put it, his parents "sent him abroad" when he joined the Army, serving in General Patton's 3rd Army, 10th Armored Division during WWII. He earned a Purple Heart while saving another soldier's life during his service. After his discharge from the Army, Jack went to the Philadelphia Textile Institute and then began his working career as a Textile Engineer, working at Carvell Combing and Brunswick Woolen Mills in Moosup, CT. Upon his retirement and his marriage to Nancy McCutcheon, Jack enjoyed golfing, downhill and cross-country skiing, tennis and travel. Jack and Nancy resided in Hague, NY and Saratoga Springs prior to moving to Redding, CT. He was active in the Presbyterian New England Congregational Church in Saratoga Springs, NY and supported Nancy in her volunteer work with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).
Jack is known and loved for his unselfish, kind nature, for having a youthful and playful spirit, for drinking his coffee black and for having a great dry sense of humor that bubbled up in all he did. He was fun to be with! Jack was a loving and beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. His kindness and loving acceptance of everyone he met will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Donations in Jack's memory can be made to NAMI Capital Region, NY (PO Box 2138, Ballston Spa, NY 12020 or online at: namicapitalregionny.org).
