Obituary

Helen Douglass, age 89, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2022 at her home in Plano, TX. Born in Portsmouth, NH on October 2, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Vera (Brown) Rand. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Richard Douglass.

In addition to her husband, Helen was also predeceased by her sister, Sandra Baillargeon. She is survived by her daughter Debra Douglass of New Fairfield, CT, son Michael Douglass and his wife, Tammy Richards, of Plano TX, granddaughter Julia Douglass and her fiancé, Chris Keating, of Dallas, TX, grandson Mark Douglass of Dallas, TX, sister Beverly Regoulinsky of Surprise, AZ, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen lived in Georgetown for over 55 years.  She worked at Ancona's grocery store and Georgetown Pharmacy for many of those years. She loved her tennis, playing multiple times per week until she was 80, and made many lifelong tennis friends. She and Debbie loved attending concerts and she endured the dreaded "selfie" that Debbie had to have (Helen hated having her picture taken). She was a fan of UCONN Women's basketball, watching them on TV and attending games in person when she could.

Helen moved to Plano, TX in 2019 to be closer to her grandchildren. She even got to see the UCONN women play in Dallas after moving to Texas.   Her overall favorite thing was chocolate.  Chocolate cake, chocolate candy, chocolate milkshakes, hot fudge sundaes.  Mark would often surprise her with a milkshake, chocolate, of course.  One of the first events she attended after moving to Texas was the Dallas Chocolate Festival with Michael, Tammy, and Julia.  That was the only time she had her fill of chocolate.  She was always cold in Connecticut and was one of the few people that liked Texas summers.  She was the only resident in her apartment complex sitting on her patio with a sweater on when it was 105 degrees.  Her daughter, Debbie, came to Texas for a visit last year and Helen enjoyed showing her around to her activities and friends.  Her niece and goddaughter, Dorothy Mukon visited this year on a cross-country trip with her daughter and grandchildren.  Helen had a great time visiting with them.

Helen's sense of humor, twinkling blue eyes, and strong desire to help anyone will be what everyone remembers.
