Obituary

Harriet Hapke Kenney of Holmes Beach, Florida, formerly of Westport CT, passed peacefully on Sunday, April 9th, she was 89.

Harriet "Hap" attended Sacred Heart High school in Waterbury CT and graduated from New Haven Teachers College.

Before retiring to Florida, Hap and her husband, Peter made their home in Westport for 60 years. They moved to Westport in 1951, where she began her career as a first grade teacher at Saugatuck Elementary School.

While raising her family, Hap pursued her artistic and literary talents.
A lover of sailing on Long Island Sound, she authored the children's book "Little Windjammer". She also loved to paint and enjoyed her associations with other Westport artists.

In the early 1980's Hap returned to teaching as the first "Director of New Media" at Ox Ridge Elementary School in Darien, CT

In later years, she enjoyed working in the production department at
The Westport News. An award winning flower arranger, Hap was named a "Lifetime" member of the Westport Garden Club.

Harriet Kenney leaves behind her three children, Erin Kenney of Stuart, FL and Santa Fe, NM, Tegan Conlon of Redding,CT , a son, Peter Kenney of Steamboat Springs, CO and 5 grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her Husband, Peter.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 21 at 4:30pm at
St. Patrick Church, 169 Black Rock Turnpike, Redding Ridge CT
