Obituary

Gustaf "Gus" Westerholm June 13, 1938 – April 12, 2026

Gustaf "Gus" Westerholm, born June 13, 1938, in Jakobstad, Finland, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Beloved husband of Linda B. Westerholm, Gus was the son of the late Thor and Margit Westerholm. He was the brother of the late Sven Westerholm and is survived by his sister, Inga Headrick of Texas.

He is also survived by his two sons, Micael (Mike) Westerholm (Carolyn) of Milford, CT and Southport, NC, and Peter Westerholm (Theresa) of Wilton, CT; grandchildren Nicholas, Mike Jr., Brendan, Sean, and Emma Maudsley (John); and great-grandson Miles Maudsley.

Gus immigrated to the United States in 1958 with his parents, who also embraced this country of opportunity. A fifth-generation member of a family painting business with deep roots in Jakobstad, Finland, he worked in painting for several companies in the White Plains, NY area before founding Gustaf Westerholm Painting in the early 1960s. He worked hard throughout his life to provide for his family and deeply loved the opportunities America offered to those willing to work diligently.

In 1960, Gus invited his sweetheart, Linda B. Langsjo, to visit the United States for a "vacation." During that visit, they married, and in 1961 they welcomed their first son, followed by their second son three years later. Gus and Linda raised their new family in White Plains, NY.  In the mid-1980s, Gus and Linda both proudly became naturalized United States citizens.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staffs at Nuvance Health, Yale New Haven Health, The Cannondale Campus and RVNA at Home Hospice, as well as to the many dedicated doctors and nurses who provided compassionate care during Gus's illnesses.

There will be no public visitation. The family will hold a private burial at Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale, NY, where Gus's parents are laid to rest.

If friends would like to honor Gus's legacy, the family requests that donations in his honor be made to Autism Speaks.
