George Nagy, 98, of Norwalk, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, April 8, 2016. Born on February 8, 1918 in Gallatin, NY., George was the son of the late Stephen and Elizabeth Nagy. He is survived by Nancy, his beloved wife of 73 years, whom he met in London, England; daughters Una Michna and Liza Johnson; and brother Benjamin Nagy. He is also survived by his sons-in-law John Michna and Mark Johnson; grandchildren George and Elizabeth Michna; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Stephen, John, Fred, Frank, Joseph, Lester, and Anthony, and his sisters Elizabeth and Margret.
George was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and served as a member of the US Army during WWII as a Combat Engineer across Europe. After returning from service, he resided in Norwalk for the remainder of his life. George worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator (60 year member of Local 478 of the International Union of Operating Engineers) and later became a Captain in the Norwalk Police Department Auxiliary where he retired after 33 years.
Services will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on April 25, 2016 at the Bouton Funeral Home 31 West Church Street Georgetown CT 06829. Burial will follow at 11:00 am on April 26 at St. Bridget's Cemetery 8074 NY-22, Copake Falls, NY 12517 which is on the property of Our Lady of Hope Church.
