Elizabeth Louise Marcotte Steiner Shaw
, age 79, most recently of Redding, CT, died peacefully on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at her home.
Born in Detroit, MI on March 24, 1939, she was the first daughter of the late Dr. Oliver J. and Marcia Putnam Marcotte. After growing up in Southfield, MI, she attended the University of Michigan and Western Michigan University graduating with a bachelor's degree. She began her career teaching at Lake Forest High School in Illinois. In later years, she received her master's degree in linguistics from Birkbeck, University of London, and taught English at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.
Elizabeth was an avid reader, writer, chef, traveler, and gardener with an engaging personality and boundless energy. In her retirement years, she lived in Wellesley, MA where she cultivated exquisite gardens which were a delight to all of those lucky enough to visit.
She was most proud of her three loving children: Charles Steiner of Cleveland, OH (married to Maria L. Steiner), Kimberly Cameron, of Wilton, CT (married to Eric G. Cameron), and Kathryn Givans, of Boston, MA (married to Duncan C. Givans). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Sean and Nora Steiner, Elizabeth, Alexander, and James Cameron, and Francesca and Peter Givans.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Elizabeth will be forever remembered by her beloved brother and sister, Dr. Oliver P. Marcotte of Novi, MI and Marcia M. Burkart of Los Angeles, CA, as well as her numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Elizabeth's life will be held on July 28th at The Church of the Transfiguration in Southfield, MI at 10:00am.
A private family burial will follow.
