Dorothy "Dotty"
Lee Goldberg Scott
Nov 28, 1936 — Jun 26, 2024
Dorothy "Dotty" Lee Goldberg Scott died at the age of 87 on June 26, 2024 in Naples Florida. She was born in Denver Colorado on November 28, 1936 to Miriam Harris Goldberg and Max Goldberg, publishers of the Intermountain Jewish News. Dotty was one of the first two girls who were Bat Mitzvah in Denver. She graduated East High School in 1954, then attended the University of Texas for one year before transferring to the University of Colorado in Boulder. There Dotty met her soon-to-be husband, Joe Scott. Their roommates were dating each other and before they knew it, Dotty and Joe fell in love, too. They married on June 4, 1957, Joe's 21st birthday beginning a 67-year adventure together.
Dotty and Joe started their lives in Texas, where their first four children were born, then moved to Joe's hometown of Woodbury CT where they welcomed their fifth and final child. Several years later they settled in Wilton CT where Dotty and Joe founded a successful swimming pool business - which still exists today more than 50 years later. As the children grew, Dotty and Joe downsized to New Canaan before making their final move to Naples FL in 2014.
In the family business, Dotty started as the bookkeeper and eventually became the human resources manager. She not only started a company newsletter called the Newsplash, but she also wrote the monthly newsletter for Temple Shearith Israel, where the family was active members. As her children began graduating college, Dotty enrolled in the University of Bridgeport to pursue her BS from the College of Health and Human Services. A dedicated student, she camped out at Pikniks Deli in Norwalk so often that they erected a plaque in her honor. Upon her graduation in 1988, Dotty continued her passion of helping others by working at Lifeline, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, and making flower deliveries to domestic violence shelters. She could also be found reading at Starbucks, taking Jazzersize, visiting family in need - especially her mother in later years - and even skydiving in her 70's! Throughout her long life with Joe, Dotty was a fan of theater and culture in New York City. Dotty loved being a wife, a mother, an older sister, a daughter, and a friend. She and Joe often opened their home to others who needed love and shelter. Known for her wonderful smile, fabulous sense of humor, and unconditional love shown to all, she had a way of making everyone feel like they were her favorite.
Dotty was diagnosed with ALS and lived courageously with it for the last seven years of her life. Special mention is due to her extraordinary team of loving and devoted caregivers Lisa Anderson, Tanisher Bailey Coleman, Natalie Green, Nadine Higgs, Natanya Martindale, and Petal Martindale.
Dotty was preceded in death by her parents, Miriam Harris Goldberg, and Max Goldberg, and grandson Jared Scott. Dotty is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Joseph Martin Scott, Jr., five children and their partners: Jordan and Karen Scott, James Scott and Carole Mills, Rebekah Simon-Peter and Jerry Gonzales, Jeffrey Scott and Corine Koornhof-Scott, and Jennifer Scott; as well as five grandchildren: Jessica Scott, Jason Scott, Michael Bergmann, Max Scott, and Kate Scott; three brothers and their partners: Charles and Honey Goldberg, Hillel and Elaine Goldberg, and Richard Goldberg and Dahlia Zuter, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Donations may be made in Dotty's memory to the Southwest Florida ALS Association. https://www.als.org/
