Doris Rose Mundschenk, 94, of Weston, CT passed away peacefully on Monday, November 12, 2018 surrounded by her family. Doris was born on January 25, 1924, the daughter of the late Charles Petermann and Anna (Sismilich) Petermann. She was the youngest of three siblings. After graduating from James Madison High School in the Bronx she went to work in New York City at Blue Cross Blue Shield where she met the love of her life, Fred P. Mundschenk. Doris and Fred were married on September 29, 1951 and enjoyed 40 years together until his passing in 1991. In 1959 she moved to Weston, Connecticut where she raised her family. She moved to Nantucket in 1973 and spent an idyllic 20 years there. She was a Sunday School Teacher, Girl Scout Troop Leader, and did volunteer work at Animals in Distress in Wilton, Connecticut. She loved sewing, knitting, gardening and caring for her many pets, and never turned an animal in need away. Always active and way younger than her years, she was hiking, mowing her large lawn with her tractor, stacking wood and keeping her wood stove burning at 94 years young. She was predeceased by brothers Charles and Gilbert and is survived by her two daughters Doris Anne Mundschenk Fanesi of Bethel, CT and Jayne Mundschenk Morin of New Fairfield, CT, her granddaughter Kayla Rose Morin, son-in-law Mark Fanesi and nephew Gilbert Petermann. In keeping with her nature, funeral arrangements will be private and for family only. Burial will be in the family plot at Hillside Cemetary in Wilton, CT.
