Obituary

Doris "Jean" Lopuch, Age 94, of Spring Hill, Florida passed away on September 12, 2024, after a short illness. She was born in Greenwich, Connecticut on September 1, 1930 to Franklin and Doris Whalley. She was raised in Port Chester, New York, as well as spending a short time living on her family's farm in Blandford, Massachusetts. Jean was married to Peter Lopuch for 53 years, until the time of his death. They started a family in Port Chester before moving to Redding, Connecticut.

Jean is survived by a daughter, Brenda Stackpole, and a son, Pete Lopuch. She was predeceased by her first child, Linda Lopuch; first grandchild, Michael Stackpole; and her brother Bud Whalley. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Eric Stackpole, Zachary Brandon, Greg Brandon, and Sammi Brandon, and four great-grandchildren.

Early in her life, Jean enjoyed spending time at her family's Blue Spruce Farm, in Blandford, Massachusetts. Her father instilled in her a love for gardening, a passion she passed onto her children. A couple of years after getting married, Jean and Peter moved to Kentucky for two years, as Peter was surviving in the Army. It was here that their first child, Linda, was born. After moving back to Port Chester, Jean resumed her career in banking and finance. She eventually worked as a credit manager for several companies, taking time off to raise her family. In 1973, the family moved to Redding. Jean built rock walls and beautiful gardens on this new property. She thought of Redding as her home. After retiring, Jean and Peter moved to Spring Hill, Florida. They enjoyed traveling around the country, including trips to Hawaii and Alaska. Jean loved going on cruises with her friends, and especially with her daughter, Brenda. Another memorable trip was to the Grand Canyon, and Sedona, AZ, with Brenda and Pete.

When Jean retired, her first big project was to work on the genealogy of the family. This was before easy access to the internet, so she visited cemeteries and town halls, as well as making contacts with distant relatives as far away as England. The result was a series of very detailed books, full of pictures and documents. She shared these books with all family members.

While in Florida, Jean became an avid and skilled bocce player. She competed in leagues for over twenty years. Of course, she also built beautiful gardens on this new property. Working on puzzles was another activity that she enjoyed. She remained proficient at solving puzzles until the end of her life. After giving up driving at 93 years old, Jean was fortunate to have her loving daughter, Brenda, move in with her for the final seven months of her life. She always said that she wanted to stay in her house until the end of her life, and that is what she did.
