Donald Edward Wakeman Sr, age 81, of Vista, NY passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with Parkinson's and dementia.
Born in Norwalk, CT on April 17, 1941, he was the son of the late Lester R. and Margaret O'Connell Wakeman. He was a 1959 graduate of John Jay High School in Cross River, NY as well as the McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in New York City. He was a Patrolman with the New Canaan Police Department from 1969 until 1982 when he purchased the Bouton Funeral Home in Georgetown, CT where he was the Funeral Director until his retirement in 2017. He was a former active member of the Vista Volunteer Fire Department.
Donald is survived by his wife, Jane Hackett Wakeman, as well as sons Donald Wakeman Jr (Wendy) of Vista, NY, Scott Wakeman (Carol) of Newtown, CT, daughters Stacy Wakeman of Danbury, CT, Shana Luoma (Robert) of Chassell, MI, and Sara Wakeman (fiancé Kenneth Dewhirst) of Woodbridge, VA., and stepdaughters Rebecca Moy (Jaime Montesanz) of Madrid, Spain and Christan Moy of Denver, CO. He is also survived by six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, by his nephew and nieces, along with four former foster children. He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Carol Anne Wakeman, brothers Robert Wakeman and Richard Wakeman, sisters Carol Cole and Barbara Wakeman, and great granddaughter Makayla Vass.
The family will receive friends at the Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church Street, Georgetown, CT 06829 on Friday January 20, 2023, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 10:00 am. Burial will immediately follow at Branchville Cemetery, Brook Lane, Ridgefield, CT.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vista Volunteer Fire Department, 377 Smith Ridge Road, South Salem, NY 10590 or the Golden Hill United Methodist Church, 210 Elm Street, Bridgeport, CT 06604.
