Charles F. Abbott, 87, from Wilton, Connecticut and Danby, Vermont passed away peacefully on July 8, 2016. He was born in Wilton, Connecticut, son of Harry and Caroline Abbott. In 1949, Charlie married his wife and life-long partner Isabella Dear of Newburgh, NY. They were married for 67 years. Charlie was a Captain of the Wilton Volunteer Fire Department for many years, as well as an avid member of the Yankee Antique Truck Club. He was a collector of antique fire trucks, tools, and farm equipment. At his farm in Danby, VT, Charlie shared his love for animals, gardening, and farming with his whole family. Through his construction company, Abbott Construction, Charlie used his lifelong passion for carpentry, building, machines, and of course iron to help others. Above all else, he was a kind and giving soul who loved and provided for his family through and through.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife Isabella; his sister Caroline Strempel; his brother Kenneth Abbott; his daughters and husbands Diane and Robert Fredette of North Clarendon, VT, Kathy and Clyde Baxter of Wilton, CT, and Jennifer and David Hewitt of Danby, VT; his sons and wives: John and Barbara Abbott of Rutland, VT, and Charlie and Laura Abbott of Bridgewater, CT. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren: Michael, Jessica, Amanda, John, Carolyn, Andy, Steven, Emily, Kaitlin, Amy, and Jack; and his 4 great-grandchildren: Natalie, Sophia, Luke, and Grace.
Calling hours will be held from 5pm to 8pm on Tuesday, July 12th at Bouton Funeral Home in Georgetown, CT. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, July 13th at the Wilton Congregational Church.
