Carl H. Zemlok, age 80, died peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2020 at Autumn Lake Healthcare after courageously battling a recent health issue from Sept 2019. He was the son of the late John and Beatrice Zemlok. Carl was the youngest of six children; the late Ina Harco, the late John Frank (Jack) Zemlok, Ann Dobrient, Helen Ruggerio and Catherine Allmand.
Carl was born on his family's farm in Worcester NY on January 11, 1940. His family moved to Ridgefield, CT that same year. They settled in Georgetown, CT in 1946 where his father worked for Gilbert & Bennett Wire Mill. Carl attended the Gilbert and Bennett School. He eventually graduated from Henry Abbott Tech High School in Danbury, CT. Carl was also a volunteer fireman for the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Company prior to his marriage.
Carl married the late Marianne Keltner on January 28, 1961. They lived in Danbury until 1967 when they moved to Norwalk where he lived the remainder of his life. Carl had four children: Cynthia Jean, Carl Kenneth (Ken) Zemlok, Michael Zemlok and the late Lisa Zemlok. Carl is also survived by three grandchildren: Sarah Zemlok, Beka Dukashvili and Nicholas Zemlok.
Carl worked in auto repair and auto sales his entire career. He was employed by Rambler, Dodge and Ford dealerships early in his career. His long tenure at Wilton Chevrolet ended as the sales manager in the early 1990s. Carl spent the remainder of his years working for O'Keefe Cadillac GMC in Westport until his retirement in 2009.
Carl enjoyed NASCAR auto racing, boating, fishing, gardening and his family. He truly enjoyed his trips to Cape Cod, California and Hawaii over the years. He was a selfless, quiet, private and caring person who continually gave to people around him and showed his unconditional love for many in his own unique way.
Due to Corona Virus restrictions, a funeral service will be held for Carl's immediatel family at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carl's memory to the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 544 Georgetown, CT 06829 or to The American Lung Association (www.lung.org). There will be a graveside service for Carl on Saturday June 27th at Hull Cemetery in Redding, CT at 10am.
