Carl Otto
Korsmeier
d. Oct 1, 2024
Carl Otto Korsmeier, 89, of Redding, CT passed on peacefully October 1, 2024. He is survived by his sister, Edith Seno and her family, and his three daughters: Loreen Bradley, Denise McNew, and Alison Rose and their families.
Born in New York to immigrant parents on March 17, 1935, Carl grew up in Queens. Carl served as a military police officer for the US Army in Panama during the Korean War. He went on to attend Hofstra University via the GI Bill and graduated with a B.S. in Finance. Carl moved to Long Island after marrying his wife of 63 years, Marion, by whom he is predeceased. On Long Island they began raising their three children, and several years later had a house built for the family in Redding.
Carl worked in finance at several different companies over the years, eventually working his way up to Director of Finance at Playtex, Int'l in Stamford. Despite a long commute, long hours at the office, and frequent international business trips, Carl took pride in maintaining an impeccable lawn and garden himself and taking on home improvements with meticulous care. Carl always gave his best effort to any work he did.
Carl was quiet and wise and a steady comfort to his three daughters. He was generous with both his time and finances. Providing for his family was of the utmost importance to him. Carl loved to have his young daughters help with the raking and snow shoveling, even when they were more of a hindrance than a help. He enjoyed building snow forts, hiking, and roller-skating with his girls. And since all three were ballet dancers, he was often coerced into being the partner with whom they could practice balances and lifts. He was a reliable source of homework assistance and volunteered to chaperone school field trips and Girl Scout activities that his girls attended. Along with the school's teachers, Carl was instrumental in starting the annual Silver Lake Trip for the fifth-grade students of John Read Middle School. When his daughters grew up and had homes of their own, Carl wouldn't hesitate to lend a hand in improving their homes and was always willing to assist his grandchildren in any way he could.
Carl enjoyed opera, folk, and country music and rock and roll ballads. He had a beautiful singing voice and often sang along to the music with the likes of The Kingston Trio, Elvis Presley, and Johnny Cash. He dabbled in some acoustic guitar playing and would entertain the family with a song here and there. Carl was an avid reader, especially books about history and nature. Speaking to Carl about these subjects always resulted in interesting conversation.
He will be greatly missed by his sister, daughters, extended family, and friends. Carl was always someone to trust and depend on.
Carl will be laid to rest by his immediate family. To offer online condolences and share memories, please visit http://www.boutonfuneralhome.com
