Barbara Leigh Moore, 92, of South Salem, NY passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024. She was born on April 6, 1932, in Jamaica, NY to Fred and Emma A. Leigh. Barbara was a loving mother to her children Tommy and Sue.

Barbara was Valedictorian of her Class of 1950 at Jamaica High School. She graduated from Queens College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in June of 1954. She married her classmate Raymond (Ray) L. Moore on June 12th a week later.  Barbara had several occupations throughout her life. She began her career as a librarian on a bookmobile after graduating from high school in Queens, NY and later at the New York Public Library.  She also worked at Lever Brothers and Macy's both in Manhattan.

Barbara was very active in her community of Lewisboro.  She was a dedicated member of Stevens Memorial United Methodist Church in South Salem, NY, since 1962, where she found solace and community.  She was one of the founding members of the church's annual Fourth of July Antique fair.   She was a member of the Lewisboro Garden Club for over fifty years, helping to maintain gardens throughout the town.  She was also passionate about tending her orchid collection, vegetable and beautiful flower gardens at her cherished home on Lockwood Rd.  Known as the "Pie Lady" for her exceptional pie-making skills and culinary treats, she brought joy to many with her delicious creations.  She was also an accomplished seamstress, upholsterer and knitter.

Barbara is survived by her son Thomas Moore and his wife Melissa of Amesbury, Massachusetts; her daughter Susan Moore Rodgers and her husband Jim of Moon Township, PA; and her niece Patricia Leigh Disert and her husband Kim of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond L. Moore and her sister June Disert.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on Saturday September 14, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at Stevens Memorial United Methodist Church in South Salem, NY. The Bouton Funeral Home in Georgetown, CT, is assisting with the arrangements.
