Barbara Gleason Blumenthal of Southbury, CT passed away peacefully March, 17 2015. Barbara was born April 18, 1934 in Greenfield, MA to Joseph and Catherine Schaff. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Blumenthal of Southbury. She is also survived by her son Jeffrey Gleason and his wife Traci of Montgomery, NY; her daughter Jennifer Masteran and her husband Anthony of Hampstead, MD; her son Douglas Gleason and wife Heather of Flower Mound, TX; and her six adored "grands": Conner, Kyleigh, Samuel, Benjamin, Jakob and Alexander. In addition she is also survived by her step-children, step grandchildren, and many other beloved extended family members. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Douglas L. Gleason, with whom she raised her children in Redding, CT. Barbara had a generous and caring heart, an infectious smile, and a wonderful sense of humor. She worked at the American Red Cross for over 15 years organizing volunteer efforts for countless blood drives, was a regular blood donor herself, and participated in numerous other volunteer opportunities throughout her life. Barbara enjoyed many activities including, tennis, golf, skiing, horse-back riding, hiking and travel to name a few. She was an excellent cook, a loyal confidant , and loved her family and friends with a genuine, joyful exuberance. Friends may call at the Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church Street, Georgetown on Sunday March 22 from 4pm-7pm. On Monday March 23 a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am in Sacred Heart Church in Georgetown.
