Angelin Ruggerone was born Angelina Messina on March 27 th , 1925. She passed away on February 18 th , 2021. Her parents were Joseph Messina and Josephine Celano. She was born and grew up in Brooklyn, NY. She had an older brother, Thomas, who is deceased and a younger sister, Anne. She is survived by her son, Mark, and his wife, Margaret, and grandchildren Frank, Christine, Mary and Rita. She is also survived by her daughter, Donna Kelly and her husband James Kelly, and grandchildren Dawn, Ryan, and Shannon. Her greatgrandchildren through Dawn and Mike Colorio are Jace, Savannah and Brynn. She is also survived by her sister Anne DiMarco and her husband Frank and nieces and nephews.
She attended PS 154 in elementary school and graduated from Manual Training High School in 1943. Her first job out of high school during WWII was with the phone company as a long-distance phone operator. After working at the phone company, she worked in banking, including at the New York Bank for Savings.
She married Joseph Ruggerone, her husband of 66 years on June 19 th , 1954 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Brooklyn. She lived with her husband in an apartment in Sunnyside, NY from 1954 to 1956. They bought a house in Baldwin, Long Island and lived there from 1956 to 1958. Angelin wanted to move back to the city, so in 1958 they sold their house in Baldwin and bought a home in Rego Park, Queens. Angelin was a housewife and raised her two children in Queens. She was excellent cook, especially of Italian cuisine. She lived in their home in Rego Park until 2019. She lived with her son and his family from 2019 to 2020.
Angelin was a practicing Catholic and prayed the rosary every night with her husband. During her married life, she went to church with her husband. In their retirement, they enjoyed going out to eat together. She would accompany her husband to various stamp, coin and memorabilia shows on the weekend. She loved to drive, especially in Manhattan. She enjoyed city life and socializing with friends. She loved dogs and had happy memories of her childhood dog named Chubby. She enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra and seeing him in concert at the Paramount Theatre when she was young. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
